I was glad things didn't get gnarly, but the resolution was a little too simple for something that's a really big deal. In a short story, the author has to pick and choose which scenes are the most impactful. I think some wrong choices were made for a romance. A lot of time was spent on Paul's death and the funeral, and some of that should've been allocated to developing Cooper and Brody's romance.
Because isn't that the point of the entire book? Aug 23, Ashley rated it really liked it. Picking Up the Pieces by Annabella Michaels is a story of loss. It is a story about finding hope in the face of losing one of the most important people in your life and finding love in a place you may least expect it. Brody Murphy watched his partner Paul Donovan get shot in a botched robbery attempt.
Brody is wracked with guilt. Why was he the one who made it out ali Picking Up the Pieces by Annabella Michaels is a story of loss. Why was he the one who made it out alive? He never had the chance to come out to his parents and he would never have that chance with his father.
Or so he thinks. This is a story that pulls at the heart. There were moments that my heart broke for both these men. Cooper is picking up so much responsibility, while attending school, and trying to keep it all together. Brody becomes a support, someone he relates to and can speak of his secrets with. The attraction between them is established quickly and it runs deep. Brody and Cooper are equals that compliment and keep each other balanced.
I do feel like there was something missing here though. I loved the date scene, and Brody making sure Cooper knew that he felt like Cooper was someone worth being treated special. That he deserved dates and to be won over. I think everyone deserves that and I love to see it written out in books.

Jun 01, Ali rated it it was amazing Shelves: reviewed. This was a wonderful story. Cooper is doing everything he can to help out his family and Brody is right there with him for most of it. Much of this book was these two grieving and coming to terms with their feelings. Now, from what I can tell Paul was one of the most accepting men alive and his wife is the same way. This greatly reduced the This was a wonderful story.

I really liked both of these guys, Cooper steps up and even moving back across the country to help out his mom. I received an ARC of this book and am giving an honest review.

What a start! Ripped my heart immediately! I had to mentally prepare myself before I started this journey, I knew it would be devastating, as losing someone you love usually is! Healing takes a lot from a person, it can bring you to your knees, can cripple you even, but with family to support you, it can be hard at first but eventually you will get there.
This story tells us how to heal, how to move on with our lives after a tragic situation, because that is what our loved ones would want for us. This story has brought so many feelings with it, I absolutely adored how Ms. Annabella Michaels went through every aspect of the story, especially how each member of the family tried to heal; although it broke my heart several times over!
I can feel the loss of both Brody and Cooper, I can literally hear my heart breaking whenever they go through any remembrance of their loved one. Congratulations Ms.follow link

Tragedy strikes for our main characters — Brody and Cooper during what appears to be any other normal day in Clearwater, FL. I found myself rooting for love to prevail, as the two men pick up the pieces of their lives after this tragedy rips their world apart. This book res What an emotional ride!!!
This book resonated with me like very few ever have. Well done Annabella Michaels, well done. If I could give this one more than 5 stars, I would. The writing and attention to detail was over the top — as usual. Be sure to have lots of tissues on hand as you read this one — it causes ugly, ugly crying. While the end results were different than the book, I could feel the pain of the story line even more acutely and got a glimpse of what the families here experienced when this type of tragedy occurs.
